Belgium

In Belgium we stayed in Brussels in a friend's house for 6 days. We were very lucky with the weather and had only 1 rainy day, normally it was cloudy and with the wind quite cold, but it could have been worse.

On the way from Germany to Brussels we stopped for a couple of hours in Liège which was on our way. The train station is very modern and also the center has some nice buildings, but it's definitely not the most beautiful city in this country.

On the first day we visited the capital and we saw the famous Atomium, Brussels main square with the town hall is great, a very nice place. From Brussels we went also on some day trip for example to Bruges, which has a wonderful old town with a lot of old buildings and channels (Venice of the north). Fredi saw a lot of companions in a pastry shop and we were afraid that he wanted to stay there, but finally he came with us. On that day we went shorty to Blankenberge on the Channel coast. On another day we took a train to Antwerp which also has a nice center with a big cathedral. This city is famous as the diamond trading center, but unfortunately we didn't see any big one.

With our friend and his car we also drove to places further away on the weekend. On one day we went to Dinant, La Roche-en-Ardenne and Malmédy which are situated in the Ardennes, some mountains, and on the other day we went to Schengen (in Luxembourg) and then along the Moselle valley with many vineyards to Trier (Germany) which has a very nice old town with Roman remainings like the famous Porta Nigra.

Belgium has some really nice cities and landscapes, we have to go back one day to see more of this contry. But this time we continued to Cyprus where we wanted to spend some sunny days.
